Where there’s a will…there’s a new expression that may also be true!

There are many everyday English expressions, some of which have been with us for centuries and could do with a revamp…  the following adaptations may be taken with a pinch of salt and a smidgen of lemon juice…

  • Where there’s smoke….. there’s air pollution
  • When the cat’s away…..the dogs get the best spots to lie
  • The early bird…..may be caught by the early cat
  • Do not put all your eggs in…..one omelette
  • The grass is always greener…..around the sewerage farm
  • Don’t count your chickens…..before the fox gets them
  • When life gives you lemons…..be grateful for something free and sell them on ebay
  • Too many cooks…..won’t fit in the kitchen
  • Do not look a gift horse…..in the butt
  • Those who live in glass houses…..should have a glazier available on speed dial
  • Rome…..was not built by the Americans
  • A rolling stone…..could be part of a landslide
  • It never rains….but it gets wet
  • A miss…..is as good as a Mrs
  • A stitch in time…..makes the wound heal quicker
  • When in Rome…..a working knowledge of Italian is useful
  • Empty vessels…..can be filled
  • One swallow…..does not make one drunk
  • The devil finds work…..for lawyers
  • Where there’s a will…..there’s a lawyer
  • Many hands…..make a tall horse
  • All that glisters…..is not slug slime
  • A friend in need…..might be on voicemail when you need him / her most
  • Many a true word…..is avoided by politicians
  • Still waters…..may attract mosquitoes
  • The pen is…..only good while the ink lasts
